Since the 2021 takeover, the vision has been clear for Newcastle United: become a footballing and financial powerhouse that stands amongst the English and European elite.
On the pitch, that’s been almost no bother: world class talent, domestic silverware, Champions League football. But in terms of financial freedom, we’re still well behind the likes of the ‘Big Six’, Real Madrid and PSG, just to name a few.
To counter this, divisive measures like potentially moving from St James’ Park and rising ticket prices have been implemented in an attempt to ‘modernise’ us and move away from some of the more traditional elements we so proudly associate with Newcastle United.
A new club crest is on the cards and had been lined up for next season, but it looks like this has been pushed back…
According to [The Mail’s](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-15088533/Newcastle-stadium-delay-badge-Dundee-tickets-injury-news-Craig-Hope.html) Craig Hope, Newcastle United will keep the current club crest next season, with a new design set to come in for the 2027/28 campaign instead.
Back in May, the club announced its intentions to update the crest to better suit the modern game.
In an email sent to supporters, the club commented that “This isn’t a decision we take lightly. We love our crest. It’s iconic and has stood us through unforgettable triumphs and testing times.
“But it was created in a different era. Its intricate design doesn’t always translate well in today’s digital world. And it’s difficult to reproduce it clearly and consistently. As football and the world changes, so too must the symbol that unites us.”
And following a period of consultation and fan workshops, it had been hoped that the new crest would be finalised and implemented in time for the 26/27 campaign.
But, writing in his Confidential column, Hope reveals why that plan hasn’t come to fruition, stating: ‘Because of various deadlines involving kit suppliers adidas and the Premier League, we understand that the earliest we will see a redesigned badge on black-and-white jerseys will be the summer of 2027.’
The proposed new club crest is just one of the dramatic changes we are of course anticipating in the next few seasons.
Though news has gone quiet recently regarding the new stadium, one would expect an official announcement to be coming next year confirming our reported new stadium plans on Leazes Park.
With St James’ Park currently pencilled to be a host stadium for EURO 2028, those fixtures could very well be the final hurrah for the Cathedral on the hill, and it may not be such a surprise to see us in our new home in time for the 2028/29 campaign.
