Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that William Saliba is back in full training and could feature in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta revealed the French defender has made a swift recovery after twisting his ankle during the warm-up ahead of Arsenal’s recent trip to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old lasted just five minutes at Anfield before being substituted and later withdrew from France’s international fixtures. Initial fears suggested he could be out for a month, but Arsenal’s medical team has accelerated his return.

“Willy trained today, so we have a decision to make [about tomorrow’s game]. Very good news,” Arteta said, offering reassurance to fans who had been worried about the club’s defensive stability in his absence. The Spaniard stressed that a final decision will be made closer to kickoff, with caution taken to prevent any setbacks.

Saliba’s availability comes as a timely boost for Arsenal, who sit just outside the top four following a mixed start to the 2025–26 campaign. The centre-back has been instrumental to the Gunners’ backline, forging a strong partnership with Gabriel and playing a key role in last season’s impressive defensive record.

Arteta also provided updates on the wider squad. Ben White has shaken off a minor knock and is fully fit, but Kai Havertz remains sidelined with a knee injury. Bukayo Saka is still recovering from a hamstring problem, while long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is not expected back until the new year following ACL surgery.
Arsenal host Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s early kickoff, with victory offering the chance to climb towards the top of the table. Forest, managed by Nuno Espírito Santo, have shown resilience this season but will face an uphill battle in north London.
Arteta hinted at possible rotation in light of the recent international break but underlined the team’s readiness: “We’re ready to go, and the players are excited.”
