‘Huge game’: Alan Shearer has predicted the result of Man City vs Man United

Manchester City need to get back to winning ways in the Manchester derby this weekend.

Indeed, after back-to-back losses in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola’s side are in danger of having their season ended before it’s even properly started.

City looked brilliant on the opening day against Wolves as Tijjani Reijnders earned huge plaudits for his performance on the day.

However, since then, City have lost to both Tottenham and Brighton, and they’re desperate for a win in their next game to get back on track.

City face Manchester United at the weekend, and, as with any derby, this could be a tricky game.

Roy Keane reckons this one will be a draw, and now, speaking to The Metro, Alan Shearer has shared how he thinks this match will go.

Alan Shearer predicts Manchester derby

Shearer shared his verdict on how this match is going to go.

The pundit didn’t sit on the fence here, claiming that he thinks City are going to win on Sunday, labelling this as a ‘huge game’ for both sides.

City lost 2-1 in this fixture last season, but Shearer thinks this will be a win for the Sky Blues this time around.

“Home win. It’s a huge game for both clubs already this season and it always is. But because of what’s happened to Man City and the pressure Man United could be under, it’s a huge game. I’ll go for a home win,” Shearer said.

Manchester United hold derby advantage for first time in 10 years

This Manchester derby comes around in rare circumstances.

Indeed, this is the first time since 2015 that United come into a derby ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Back in April 2015, United were in third place when they faced off against a fourth-place Man City team in the back end of the Manuel Pellegrini era.

United would win 4-2 that day to go even further ahead of City in the Premier League table.

However, United would then win just one of their final six games in the Premier League that season, finishing two places behind City come the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola has never gone into a derby in these circumstances, and he’ll be hoping that the scoreline is very different from that day in April 2015.
