Tracy McGrady is one of the most celebrated shooters of all time, but he feels that no one in the modern NBA comes close to him.
McGrady was recently speaking about today’s players and said no one can compare.
But if he had to choose someone, he would say that Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics bears some resemblance to his game.
“In today’s game? I don’t see nobody. I think it’s gonna be hard to be that because I took midranges. If Tatum was a guy that took those midranges, I would say Tatum. I was fast. If he played that in-between game like that, yeah,” McGrady said.
T-Mac says he doesn’t think there’s anyone in today’s NBA who’s close to the prime version of himself.

Like he said, McGrady was praised for his mid-range game, and he doesn’t see any current players who shoot like he did.
During his 16 years in the league, he averaged 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists on 43.5 percent from the field.
He was a fast player, someone who flew past defenses and was able to produce masterful shots, particularly from the mid-range area.
It’s easy to see how Tatum was influenced by him, even if McGrady doesn’t think they’re a one-for-one comparison.
McGrady’s comment is a reminder that some people have challenged Tatum to work on his mid-range shot.
They feel there are certain areas of his game that can be improved.
With a year off because of injury, Tatum has plenty of time to work on his shots from all over the court.
As for McGrady, he’ll keep watching the league and will continue to see if anyone plays like he used to.
