F1 star Oscar Piastri drops scoreline prediction for Newcastle United vs Wolves

Formula 1 World Championship leader Oscar Piastri has shared his score prediction for Newcastle United’s Premier League clash against Wolves.

After a two-week international break, the Premier League is back, and the Magpies are in action at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s side welcome Vitor Pereira’s Wolves for their second home game of the season, where Newcastle United will be aiming to pick up their first Premier League win of the season.

Newcastle have kept two clean sheets in their first three games in the 2025/26 campaign, and will be keen to make it three in four against Wolves, who are yet to pick up a single point this season. Howe will be without Yoane Wissa, who has suffered a knee injury on international duty, so record signing Nick Woltemade will likely be fast-tracked into the starting XI.

With both teams keen to win their first game of the season, F1 star Oscar Piastri has shared his verdict on the game.

Oscar Piastri predicts narrow win for Newcastle United against Wolves

Chris Sutton thinks Newcastle will easily beat Wolves, though he warned that Jorgen Strand Larsen could come back to haunt the Magpies after their failed transfer pursuit.

Elsewhere, Paul Merson has urged Howe to start Woltemade against Wolves to give fans a glimpse of what to expect from him.

Piastri is in complete agreement with Sutton and Merson about the result, but has predicted a more worrying scoreline.

“Ok, Newcastle vs Wolves. I’m gonna go for a 1-0 victory to Newcastle,” Piastri told the Premier League website.

It will be another clean sheet for the Magpies if the scoreline is correct, but fans will be hoping for more goals than just one against a side they are usually very good against.

Newcastle United must end the week on a high before Champions League opener

The Wolves game is the start of a very tough stretch of fixtures for the Magpies, which sees them playing seven games in the next few weeks.

A win on Saturday would be the perfect start for them, so they can go into their tricky run with a renewed sense of confidence.

First off, Newcastle host Barcelona in the Champions League at St James’ Park. It will be the first time the two teams have met since 2003, when the La Liga giants ran out 2-0 winners on Tyneside.

A boost for the Magpies is that Gavi and Alejandro Balde are out injured, meaning that Hansi Flick has a weakened side to work with.

Newcastle then have a long trip to Bournemouth just a few days later before playing Bradford at home in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Games against Arsenal, Union SG and Nottingham Forest will follow, meaning Howe may be forced to rotate his squad accordingly.
