Arsenal are the favourites for the game, however, they will be without star centre-back William Saliba, as the defender is dealing with an injury which could see him miss several matches in the coming weeks. Saliba is subject to a lot of stories at the moment, as his current contract is due to expire in June 2027, with the Gunners keen to extend his deal.
However, there has been reported interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid, who would likely to try do the same thing that they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, persuading him not to sign a new contract and move to the Bernabeu when his deal expires instead.
This would be a huge blow for Arsenal, as Saliba is a key player, and he has a market value of £69m, a figure that will only likely rise as the 24 year-old continues to grow under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal offer Saliba a new contract
It is no secret that Arsenal want to sign Saliba onto a long-term deal, however, no indication had been seen yet, but it now seems that the Gunners are stepping up their efforts to sign him.
According to French news outlet FootMercato, Arsenal have offered Saliba a five-year deal which would see him stay at the club until June 2032, on top of his current deal. It has only been reported in France so far, but if the reports are true, Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear the latest update.
It comes as the French outlet also say that Real Madrid are “monitoring” Saliba’s situation at Arsenal, as they would like to sign him to further strengthen their starting XI under Xabi Alonso. The Frenchman has made 137 appearances for Arsenal, scoring seven goals, and providing two assists.
