Manchester United are eyeing a sensational swoop to sign Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson in January, according to TEAMtalk.
The Red Devils splashed £216m in the summer transfer window to bring in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens for Ruben Amorim, but they failed in their hopes of bringing in a new central midfielder.
Brighton star Carlos Baleba was a key target but the Seagulls stood firm on not allowing him to move this season, and now United have earmarked a potential move for England's newest midfield superstar in Anderson.

Anderson, who has been described as "phenomenal" after his performances for England during the recent wins over Andorra and Serbia, has emerged as someone that INEOS chiefs are keeping a close eye on ahead of the winter window.
The 22-year-old joined Forest from Newcastle in the summer of 2024 for £35m and has blossomed into a top Premier League player under Nuno Espirito Santo's guidance. However, after the Portuguese coach was sacked at the City Ground this week, there is a belief that a move could become possible.
Nottingham Forest currently have no intention of allowing their star midfielder to move on midway through January, and Man Utd are still prioritising a move to sign Baleba as Amorim's dream midfield signing.
However, there is no expectation that Brighton will change their stance before next summer, and United want to sign two new midfielders in 2026 to bolster their squad and potentially replace Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, who have both been linked with moves away.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to back Amorim in the January window once again, and Anderson is someone who features highly on their list of potential targets.
Man Utd are likely to renew their interest in Baleba next summer and will be hopeful of agreeing a deal with Brighton after agreeing personal terms with the Cameroonian, while they have also been linked with Adam Wharton. Kobbie Mainoo is also highly-rated within the club, although there are question marks over his long-term future.
