To say things didn’t go well for the Miami Dolphins on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts would be an understatement. Unlike the Las Vegas Raiders, the Dolphins didn’t take care of business. However, for the Raiders, the more the Dolphins struggle, the better off they’ll be.

If the Raiders truly believe they have an opportunity to compete in the AFC West, which seems likely considering they had a great win on Sunday against a tough New England Patriots team in Foxborough, anything could be possible. The Raiders could be looking at a player like Tyreek Hill as a potential trade candidate, given their need for a wide receiver.

Christopher Kline of FanSided shared the same thought, proposing a trade idea to send him to the Raiders. He noted that the Raiders still have cap space, and with them being in a situation to try to win, Hill could help with that.

“The Las Vegas Raiders have north of $40 million in cap space and a clear mandate to win under Pete Carroll, soon to be the oldest head coach in NFL history. Tom Brady has made it no secret that he plans to bring a winning culture to Sin City. Las Vegas’ Week 1 win over New England was encouraging, but this offense still lacks firepower…

“Hill is insanely expensive, but he’s also on a short-term deal and his value is as close to rock bottom as it has even been. Miami can’t ask for the moon and stars in a return package. He probably won’t get another $90 million-plus in free agency either. That makes this a worthwhile risk for the Raiders, who can afford the short-term cap burden with hopes of keeping Hill around on a more team-friendly deal in the future,”he wrote.

What Would the Raiders Give Up for Tyreek Hill?

The question for the Las Vegas Raiders is what they want to give up for a player like Hill. Throughout parts of his career, it’s been evident that he was arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL.

With 1,799 yards, 13 touchdowns, and an average of 15.1 yards per reception in the 2023 season, Hill was named the No. 1 player in the NFL. The Raiders would love a player of that caliber, but they should only do it if the price is right.

The Raiders Would Need to Cough Up Draft Picks

Regarding what the Miami Dolphins could get in return, that’s where the question gets confusing. The Las Vegas Raiders don’t have much of a reason to bail the Dolphins out with a package, unless they truly believe they have an opportunity to win with him.

When examining what it could be for, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report not only named Hill the top trade candidate in the NFL entering Week 2, but he also stated that they shouldn’t expect to get much for him in return.

“Phillips isn’t the only player the Dolphins should consider moving if their season goes further south. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill is a logical trade candidate—due in no small part to his stats as a potential 2026 cap casualty…

“However, the Dolphins are highly unlikely to get back anything close to the package they surrendered for Hill in 2022—which included first-, second- and sixth-round picks, along with a pair of fourth-rounders,”he wrote.

If the Raiders don’t have to move multiple draft picks to land the speedy wide receiver, it wouldn’t be a bad idea.
