Aston Villa are looking to push ahead with a new deal for John McGinn, but TBR Football understands he is not the only central midfielder that Monchi is looking to tie down.
McGinn was the subject of transfer interest this summer from Newcastle and Everton, however Aston Villa were firm that their captain was not for sale.
Villa Director of Football Monchi made it clear that McGinn’s future was a priority after the transfer window closed, and it is understood he will also look to open talks with Youri Tielemans.

Unai Emery’s side strengthened their squad with the additions of Evann Guessand, Harvey Elliott, Victor Lindelof and Jadon Sancho – so tying down their central midfield players will be a significant boost.
Monchi makes Youri Tielemans his next contract priority at Aston Villa as John McGinn talks start
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey reports that talks have now begun with John McGinn’s camp after Aston Villa resisted transfer interest in the Scotland international this summer.
Bailey said: “We can confirm that McGinn’s camp have already begun talks and we can now reveal that the Scottish star is not alone in being wanted as we can confirm that Your Tielemans is in-line for a new deal too.
“The 28-year-old Belgian international enjoyed a stunning return to form last season and now along with McGinn has become a key member of their squad under Unai Emery.
“Now we understand that the club’s footballing chief Monchi, who has already tied down their midfield colleague Boubacar Kamara, is looking to seal deals for both McGinn and Tielemans.”

Bailey added: “Unai Emery is delighted with how McGinn and Tielemans have been contributing for the club, and they are ready to tie them both down to fresh deals.”
McGinn, 30, is approaching 300 appearances for Villa since signing from Hibernian in 2018. He has 30 goals and 40 assists, with his current deal running until 2027.
Tielemans enjoyed a fine season last term as Villa featured in the Champions League, and the 28-year-old is also contracted until 2027.
