Christian Eriksen has accepted a 65% wage reduction Wolfsburg, after leaving Manchester United this summer.
[That’s according to BILD](https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/bundesliga-das-verdient-superstar-christian-eriksen-beim-vfl-wolfsburg-68c2bd230b16317851623f8f), who cover the veterans move to Wolfsburg this week and him accepting a significantly lower wage packet.
Eriksen completed a move to the German side this week after spending the summer as a free agent following his departure from Manchester United. That included a spell training at Swedish club Malmo to maintain his fitness.
He was linked with various clubs in Europe, having admitted he would prefer to leave England following spells with Tottenham, Brentford and Manchester United.
He’s now moved to the Bundesliga for his first stint there, accepting a deal to join Wolfsburg this week on a free transfer.
BILD report that the Lower Saxony club are paying a lot for this. According to them, the Danish international will earn around €3.5m gross per season. This won’t put him among the top earners, though, as captain Maximilian Arnold earns €5m as the top earner at the German club.
While €3.5m gross may sound like a healthy enough fee, the newspaper do say it’s a significant drop from what he was earning at Manchester United. In fact, it’s a 65% drop as he earned around €10m a year at Old Trafford.
He could have kept earning big money elsewhere, with offers from ‘the desert’ and the USA on the table. Instead, he wanted to join the Wolves and has taken a big pay cut to make that happen.
