Aston Villa sold the attacking midfielder to fellow Premier League side Newcastle United in the last transfer window

Aston Villa have made a slow start to the new Premier League season. They are yet to win in their first three league fixtures and will hope to hit some form over the coming weeks and months. Unai Emery’s side drew 0-0 with Newcastle United on the opening day.

However, they have since lost to Brentford and Crystal Palace. They are back in action this weekend after the international break. The Midlands outfit face an away trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to lock horns with Everton as they go in search of their first win.

Nightmare start for ex-Aston Villa man Jacob Ramsey at Newcastle United

Former Aston Villa man Jacob Ramsey has ruled out for a month due to an ankle injury. He was sold to fellow top flight side Newcastle in the summer. However, he is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

Their boss Eddie Howe has said: "Jacob is the only other injury concern and he'll miss the game. He's suffered from that tackle against Leeds, his ankle swelled up at half-time and he had to come off. Unfortunately, I think he'll be missing until the next international break so that's a big blow.”

Ramsey, 24, rose up through the academy ranks at Aston Villa and was a regular at various different youth levels. He was loaned out to Doncaster Rovers in the Football League back in 2020 to get some experience under his belt. The Birmingham-born man then went on to break into the first-team.

He made a total of 167 appearances in all competitions and scored 17 goals, four of which came in the last campaign. Newcastle then came calling in August and forked out around £40million to snap him up. The Toon Army acquired him to add more quality to their squad and he has since played two competitive games since his move to the North East.

New challenge for Jacob Ramsey after Aston Villa exit

After signing for Newcastle from Aston Villa, Ramsey said: “Since Eddie joined Newcastle I haven’t heard one person speak badly of him. In the media he comes across really well. I looked at the team and saw Tino, Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall - and he’s made them all better players. When I found out Eddie Howe wanted me in his team, I immediately thought Eddie Howe will improve me.”

He also took to social media to send this heartfelt message on Instagram: “It’s impossible to put into words what playing for Aston Villa has meant to me. From being a young fan in the Holte End to living my dream and scoring in front of it. This club has been an extended family to me, and I’ve got memories for life - from making my Premier League debut, experiencing Champions League nights back at Villa Park and scoring my first goals in those competitions.

“To everyone at Aston Villa, both at the academy and in the first team, thank you for your support, belief and guidance. You’ve helped me become the person and player I am today. I’ve played with some of the best & made friends for life. And finally to the fans - thank you for the love and backing. To represent you, as a boy from Birmingham, has been an absolute honour. Onto the next chapter now, but wish you all nothing but the best in the future. Thank you for everything!! JJ.”
