Chiefs fans get unexpected Xavier Worthy update that changes everything

Throughout the week leading up to the Kansas City Chiefs' game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead on Sunday afternoon, the team has been steadily providing positive updates on the status of wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

On Friday, Chiefs head coach [Andy Reid left the door open for a return](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOer2KZachA) to the field in week 2.

"Xavier did a little bit of the team work but that was it," said Reid when addressing reporters following practice on Friday. While that sounds like Worthy isn't quite ready to play, Reid was pressed for further information and asked if Worthy could play.

"I'd probably tell you that's slim," said Reid, "but there's still a chance." Later, Reid added, "He's doing well. All the stuff's positive," when asked about how the training staff viewed his progress.

Andy Reid has some great news on Xavier Worthy to close out a week of practice.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Worthy initially injured his shoulder on a freak collision with tight end Travis Kelce on the first offensive series of the Chiefs' loss in Week 1 to the L.A. Chargers in Brazil. Worthy was taken to the locker room and designated as out after undergoing further examination from the team's training staff.

Initial fears following the event were that Worthy's shoulder dislocation could potentially sideline him for multiple games—perhaps even a significant percentage of the season—but indications by mid-week showed a much more positive trajectory for Worthy.

By Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid ruled out immediate surgery to correct the problem, and he also stated the Chiefs would not be placing him on injured reserve. The assumption from there was that the Chiefs viewed his internal timetable positively, perhaps even returning before the end of the month of September.

Now, however, it appears [Worthy is looking much better than anyone could have originally predicted](https://arrowheadaddict.com/chiefs-quietly-reveal-xavier-worthy-return-is-closer-than-anyone-expected-01k4th3wr74x), and it's possible the team's most dynamic playmaker could even see some reps on the field.

The Chiefs aren't going to want to put Worthy at risk for further injury for the sake of short-term gains against the Eagles. While it's a chance for a measure of revenge following an embarrassing loss in Super Bowl LIX, Reid knows the season is long, and Worthy is going to be needed at full strength down the stretch for the Chiefs offense to function as intended.

That said, Reid's latest update on Worthy is the best news of all. The receiver looks like he's going to able to make an on-field impact very soon—perhaps even on Sunday against the Eagles. While he might be limited in the short-term, the Chiefs' offensive woes will begin to find some real answers as Worthy makes his way back into the game plan.
