'Defense wins championships': Packers' Micah Parsons has confident message following Thursday Night Football win

The Green Bay Packers put on another dominating performance on Thursday night as they beat the Washington Commanders, 28-17. The score makes the game look closer than it really was as the Commanders scored a touchdown and two-point conversation with less than three minutes to go.

The Packers' win was led, once again, by a ferocious defensive performance. Green Bay held the Commanders to three points through three quarters, and gave up just 51 rushing yards.

Last week, the Packers held the Lions, who led the NFL in points last year, to six points before Detroit found the end zone with less than one minute to go. Green Bay also held the Lions to just 46 rushing yards.

Parsons Sends Message About Packers' Defense

The Packers defense got a lot stronger just before the first week of the 2025 NFL season when Green Bay traded for Cowboys' edge rusher Micah Parsons.

The former Penn State linebacker has made the Pro Bowl in all four of his NFL seasons, and has started 2025 off with a bang. Following the Packers' win on Thursday night, Parsons revealed to reporters just how confident he is in his new squad.

"What I’ve been telling everyone, defense,” Parsons said. "J-Love, I think you give us 20 points, we should be able to win that game. It’s all about getting stops and getting the ball back to the offense. As y’all seen against Baltimore and Buffalo, you can have your quarterback damn near have a perfect game but still lose because, guess what, the defense gave up, what, 40 points?

Micah Parsons generated a team-high 8 pressures and 0.5 sacks on 37 pass rushes (21.6%) in his second game with the Packers.

"So, defense wins championships. I think the fans like points and they like to see the big plays, but when you play great defense, it’s just so beautiful to see."

So far in 2025, the Packers have scored 27 points in back-to-back games, and the defense hasn't given up 20 points yet.

Last season, the Packers scored at least 20 points in 15 of their 17 regular season games. Green Bay's defense has looked incredible through its first two games, and if it continues that success, the Packers could be looking at a special season.
