Leeds United handed contract boost over Championship star they are ‘tracking’ long-term - journalist

A Championship striker is one of the players Leeds United are keeping tabs on in the 2025/26 season.

Jarrod Bowen joined West Ham United from Hull City, James Maddison made the move from Norwich City to Leicester City, and Eberechi Eze moved to Crystal Palace from QPR. Leeds United will be looking for bargains like them.

They are among the attacking players to make the move from the Championship to the Premier League in the last decade to great success. There have been other strikers, too, with Ollie Watkins perhaps the major success story in that regard.

The question now remains as to who will be the next big-money striker out of the second tier and into the Premier League to become a success, especially those under the age of 23. Leeds are keeping tabs on the progress of one of them.

Mihailo Ivanovic contract situation at Millwall with Leeds tracking the striker

Mihailo Ivanovic of Millwall is being tracked by Leeds. In many ways, unsurprisingly, given that there is mounting interest in the highly-rated international forward.

The 20-year-old Serbian joined from Vojvodina last summer, and he was instrumental in the club’s play-off push as he was the only Millwall player to register double figures for goal involvements, including finding the net himself 13 times.

Season Team Appearances Goals Assists

2022/23 Sampdoria (loan) 1 0 0

2023/24 FK Vojvodina 38 9 unknown

2025/26 Millwall 4 0 1

Despite the growing interest in the young striker and the huge price tag on his head, the Championship club are yet to hold talks with Ivanovic over a new deal to reflect his worth in the transfer market.

Other clubs are expected to rekindle their pursuits and make offers for his services when the transfer window reopens in January. However, Pete O’Rourke reports there is yet to be a breakthrough when it comes to holding talks over a fresh contract,

Mihailo Ivanovic’s Millwall price tag revealed

At the time of his switch to Millwall from Vojvodina last summer, Ivanovic had become the Lions’ record transfer for an incoming player. Alex Neil’s side invested £2.8 million (BBC Sport) in the young prospect’s signature.

Late in August, it was reported by Peter Smith that a low-ball bid of £7 million was submitted and, unsurprisingly, knocked back by the Championship side.

Instead, Alan Nixon claims that Millwall demand at least £15 million for Ivanovic’s services. Should Leeds become more interested and firm up that intrigue with an offer, that is the ballpark they will be playing with for the one-cap international.
