SALT LAKE CITY – Lauri Markkanen saw his Cinderella run come to an end as Finland fell to Germany in the EuroBasket semifinals.
Finland’s final four finish is the best in the country’s basketball history, eclipsing its sixth-place result at the 1967 EuroBasket tournament.

However, the combination of Dennis Schroder (26 points, 12 assists) and Franz Wagner (22 points, five rebounds) proved too much for the Finnish roster.
Markkanen scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but shot just 6-17 from the floor, including 2-9 from the three-point line in the loss.
Finland was outscored by 24 points in the All-Star forward’s 28 minutes on the floor.
What’s Next For Markkanen, Finland?
Though their championship hopes have been dashed, Finland’s EuroBasket run isn’t quite over.
Markkanen will face Giannis Antetokoumpo and Greece and who were blown out by Turkey in their semifinal meeting.
The third-place game will be played on Sunday morning before Germany and Turkey meet in the Euro Basket final.
