Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim already has a dilemma ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon, in terms of who he should play between the sticks against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City outfit - and Fabrizio Romano has hinted to GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast that new man Senne Lammens could be in line to feature in the future, despite Bayindir being set to play vs City.
The Red Devils have largely relied upon Cameroonian shot-stopper Andre Onana between the sticks over the past two years, especially under Erik ten Hag, who had him at Ajax during his time at the Eredivisie giants. However, Amorim began to grow fed up with him last season, slowly bringing Turkish backup star Altay Bayindir into the mix.
Romano: Lammens Has 'Very Good Chance' of Becoming Man Utd Starter
Senne Lammens in action for Royal Antwerp
A summer of transfer business saw Lammens join the club on transfer deadline day, giving the Red Devils three goalkeepers to choose from. However, developments after the transfer window have seen Onana join Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor on loan with their transfer window remaining open.
That has posed questions as to who will start imminently. Bayindir having featured in all three Premier League games so far sees him rank as a big contender, though Lammens' addition means that he could come to the fore from the get-go.
And Romano, speaking on GIVEMESPORT's Market Madness podcast, has hinted that with United having pushed for Lammens hard, it could see him thrust into action in the near future. He said:
"I think they will be competing for the spot for the first-team goalkeeper, so it's not going to be 100 percent guaranteed for anyone, but I'm sure that Senne Lammens is also a clear favourite.
"I think Manchester United really trust him for the present, but also the future. They believe that this is one of the best young goalkeepers in the world, and so they really trust this boy.
"They wanted Lammens strongly. Obviously, there was also the opportunity to go for Emi Martinez, which is a completely different profile - obviously to add some leadership, but also with different costs in terms of salary and transfer fee.
"So they decided for Lammens, because they believe this is the ideal solution for the present and the future. I'm sure that Lammens has a very good chances to be the starting goalkeeper at Manchester United."
Lammens arrives at United with huge pedigree. Having made 44 appearances for Royal Antwerp last season, where they finished fifth in the regular season, he's evidently a European-ready goalkeeper and that is where United will want to get to within the coming months.
