Vikings Lose Three Starters for Week 2 Matchup vs Falcons

The Minnesota Vikings pulled off one of the most impressive fourth-quarter comebacks in recent memory, as the team pulled from behind to take down the Chicago Bears with a 27-24 final score.

Young signal caller J.J. McCarthy was awarded NFC Player of the Week for his three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and it was announced that he was at the hospital welcoming his new baby.

Despite all the good news for the Vikings, the team lost some solid players as a result of the win.

Cornerback Jeff Okudah, linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, and offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw have all been ruled out.

Darrisaw is not a big surprise, as he did not suit up for Week 1 due to recovering from an ACL tear in 2024. However, the team losing both Okudah and Van Ginkel is tough.

Both Okudah and Van Ginkel entered concussion protocol following the win against the Bears, and it appears that both have not cleared that protocol. Losing two solid defenders will be tough for the Vikings.

Van Ginkel is one of the best linebackers in the league, and losing him is going to make the Vikings' pass rush far less effective. He finished Week 1 with five total tackles and two passes defended.

The same goes for Okudah. He secured two total tackles in Week 1.

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell did indicate that both Okudah and Van Ginkel were in the concussion protocol, but he did not indicate how long they would be out. Hopefully, both will only miss one game and can rejoin Minnesota in Week 3 when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Falcons are a far worse team on paper, but that doesn't mean the Vikings should underestimate them. Having three starters out for any team would be tough to deal with.
