A host of clubs, such as Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, are ready to pursue a deal for Adam Wharton after some speculation on his January price.
According to Mark Brus, Liverpool will battle with Chelsea and Manchester United for Adam Wharton ahead of the January window. The Crystal Palace could be made available for around the £60 million mark in the winter window, although that price point may be just speculation at this stage of the pursuit.
Some of the top clubs in the Premier League kept tabs on certain midfielders during the summer, but there were not many who moved about. For instance, Manchester United decided against pursuing a deal for Carlos Baleba after initial enquiries, while Liverpool, despite an expectation, did not target a holding midfielder.
Manchester United also reportedly tried for Adam Wharton as a late option, with Crystal Palace seemingly warding off suitors by placing a £100 million price tag. However, the Red Devils, alongside other interested parties, could re-enter the conversation and try for the Palace star once again in January.
Liverpool also held an interest in Wharton, but they were too focused on deals for Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi, with the latter ultimately staying at Crystal Palace. Another report from Mark Brus on Caught Offside stated that Wharton could be made available for £60 million in January, but that could just be speculation at this stage of the season.
However, the Merseysiders could switch their attention towards a central midfielder to fortify their setup in the position. Chelsea are also thought to be in the race, and while they have formidable players in the position, their chase of the £60 million-rated Premier League midfielder could indicate they might be done with the constant fitness issues with Romeo Lavia.
Will Crystal Palace sell Adam Wharton in January?
Palace had a productive window even though they sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal and came extremely close to losing Guehi to Liverpool. With the latter likely to leave on a free transfer next summer, the idea of also selling Wharton, especially in January, makes little sense for Palace.
Wharton is considered a key part of Oliver Glasner’s plans, and with the club set to embark on an important European journey, it makes little sense to sell him. Hence, despite the report stating a £60 million price point, Palace are unlikely to entertain January offers first, and then certainly not sell him at the price mentioned.
