New general manager Scott Perry made it clear that he felt like acquiring a starting point guard was a top priority after taking over the Sacramento Kings this offseason. Star center Domantas Sabonis mentioned it in his end of season presser as well.
Dennis Schroder was that answer, signing a three-year deal with Sacramento early in free agency.
Perry is looking for someone to lead that group on both ends of the floor, a tone setter. Maybe Schroder’s best example of leading teams in recent years have come in his time with Germany’s national teams.
He’s done the same during the ongoing 2025 EuroBasket, helping lead Germany to a 98-86 win over Finald in the Semifinals.
New Kings guard had 26 points, 12 assists, and 5 rebounds on 6/15 from the field and 10/10 on free throws.
Dennis Schroder in today’s Eurobasket Semi win vs. Finland:
26 points — 6/15 FG, 10/10 FT
12 assists
5 rebounds
Led the team in points and assists. Both were his highest marks this tournament.

That was a game-high in points and assists, as well as a tournament best in both categories for Schroder. While not the most efficient night from the field, his patience and poise when facilitating their offense.
His teammates included NBA talents Franz Wagner, Isaac Bonga, Daniel Theis, and Tristan da Silva while Lauri Markkanen led the way for Finland.
18-year-old high schooler Miikka Murrinen also turned heads during the tournament, taking down Serbia (Nikola Jokic) and Georgia (Goga Bitadze and Alexander Mamukelashvili) before running into Germany.

Schroder’s impressive EuroBasket showings should be a promising sign for Kings fans curious about his potential fit under head coach Doug Christie.
Germany is now set to face off against Alperen Sengun and Turkey in the Finals on Sunday, September 14th at 11 AM PST.

Bleacher Report NBA Insider Jake Fischer reported the rumor, while others mentioned that they were potentially exploring the idea of moving Dario Saric in the deal.
Oubre played 60 games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, averaging 15.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 47.0 percent from the field in 34.6 minutes per night.
