The Pittsburgh Steelers host the Seattle Seahawks at Acrisure Stadium for their home opener on Sunday afternoon. One matchup to monitor closely throughout the game is Seattle’s new receiving corps vs. Pittsburgh’s revamped secondary. However, the Seahawks may have the upper hand with the recent injury to the Steelers’ star.

Joey Porter Jr. aggravated his hamstring injury during the third quarter in Week 1 against the New York Jets. The injury sidelined him for the remainder of the game. Mike Tomlin initially provided a promising injury update on Porter on Tuesday, expressing optimism regarding his availability against the Seattle Seahawks.
“Joey Porter Jr. wasn’t able to finish the game with a hamstring,” Tomlin said, via Jordan Foote of Heavy.
“Optimistic about his availability, but I’ll let the quality of his work and the amount of his work during the week be our guide there.”

Joey Porter Jr. did not participate in this week’s practice as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury. The Steelers released their Week 2 injury report on Friday, officially listing the star cornerback as out against the Seattle Seahawks. Porter will miss his second career game in his first three seasons, as the team is wisely playing it safe.

While Darius Slay Jr. and Jalen Ramsey are expected to primarily line up on the outside, Brandin Echols could be in store for an increased role, potentially lining up in the slot in Week 2. The former New York Jet played 16 percent of defensive snaps against his former team in Week 1. Echols is considered the top reserve/backup corner on the team and can play on the outside and the inside.
