£18M star breaks down huge reason for making Leeds United decision

Leeds United had a very good transfer window despite what fans have said after deadline day. Even if the club did miss out on one or two pieces, the players they did recruit were quality.

The Whites were able to sign top players from Europe’s top leagues for very affordable transfer fees. The likes of Lucas Perri, Jaka Bijol and Anton Stach all arrived at Elland Road with the total spend this summer less than £100million.

Bringing in players at that level of experience is very useful, as playing in the Premier League is very difficult. One positive of Leeds’ transfer window was how meticulously planned the recruitment of defenders and midfielders was. The club now has quality and depth in these areas.

Okafor was one of the late arrivals after Daniel Farke asked the club for reinforcements. He came for one of the highest price tags among the club’s signings this summer. Even though he is yet to get into rhythm, Farke has seen some positives.

Many fans would ask why a player would switch playing in Milan to come to West Yorkshire, but Okafor has a simple explanation for that. The forward says moving this summer was important to him because he wanted to play more football.

“For me, it’s the most important thing to play, to play every game.” he said to The Athletic.

“Then I can get on my top, develop each thing I have to improve, for what I do well. Every player wants to play. I need to get my confidence back, and in this team, I can find that.”

“This [playing infrequently] is hard when you play two, three, or four games as a substitute (for) 10, 20, 30 minutes. For players, it’s hard to get in shape and really get the confidence.

“That’s why I also made this decision (to come to Leeds), because I know what my quality is, I know I have to improve, and that’s why I work every day hard. It’s the most important thing to come every day with a smile and give the best on the pitch.

“You are not used to the rhythm, so when you go to a game, of course, football is hard. Sometimes, it’s normal to have a little pain or something, but that’s why I said I work really hard.”
