Star Steelers pass rusher unexpectedly lands on injury report days before Seahawks game

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith unexpectedly appeared on the team’s injury report, and was limited on Friday with an ankle injury. Highsmith had a sprained ankle last season, and while he was limited on Friday, there is no game designation for him going into the game, meaning he will play.

Highsmith has dealt with multiple injuries over the last year. He has strained his groin on three separate occasions, but hopes the latest one is behind him. He looked explosive and game-breaking in his first game back against the New York Jets.

The Steelers will welcome outside linebacker Nick Herbig into the fold, too. As long as Highsmith’s injury does not flare up, the outside linebacker room should be at full strength for the Steelers.

The Steelers had a rash of soft tissue injuries in 2024 that forced multiple players to miss significant time, including Highsmith, who still rounded into a productive year despite missing time with that groin injury as well as an ankle injury.

Highsmith’s injury troubles in 2024 were an outlier in his career, and he hopes to put those behind him in 2025 as he rounds into game shape once again.

In Week 1, Highsmith had one sack and eight pressures against the Jets.
