Seattle Times staff picks for Seahawks vs. Steelers in Week 2

Here are score predictions for the Seahawks’ Week 1 game against the 49ers at Lumen Field from The Seattle Times sports staff.

Week 2 vs. Steelers

Matt Calkins (1-0)

Steelers 28, Seahawks 21: Until the Seahawks prove they can move the ball up field with their new-look offense, I’ll be unconvinced they can beat a relatively talented team on the road. Look for Aaron Rodgers to have another retro performance against a Seattle team still finding its footing.

Mike Vorel (0-1)

Steelers 24, Seahawks 20: It’s never easy to travel east for a 10 a.m. game in hostile territory. It’s harder still to do so with an offense that failed to establish an identity in a disappointing debut. The Seahawks will keep Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf in check for the majority of Sunday’s game, and they’ll move the ball enough to keep things interesting. But will quarterback Sam Darnold and this offensive line make plays when it matters most? I have my doubts.

Bob Condotta (0-1)

Steelers 21, Seahawks 16: This game is pretty much a toss-up. But those often go to the home team, and Seattle’s road luck may unfortunately run out in front of a Steelers crowd amped to greet Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf as they play their first home games in Pittsburgh.

Tim Booth (0-1)

Seahawks 18, Steelers 17: This is an audacious pick, but it’s basically a must-win as the rest of the NFC West should all be 2-0 after this week thanks to some favorable matchups. Week 1 showed that the Seahawks defense is legit. It also showed the Seahawks offense that anybody not named Jaxon Smith-Njigba has work to do. The line has Pittsburgh only favored by 3 points at home, which seems telling. A better offensive game plan from Klint Kubiak and another strong defensive effort get the Hawks an ugly, unexpected and absolutely needed victory.

Week 1: Seahawks 17, 49ers 13

Condotta: Seahawks 23, 49ers 17

Vorel: Seahawks 24, 49ers 20

Calkins: 49ers 20, Seahawks 17*

Booth: Seahawks 23, 49ers 17

* Denotes closest score.
