Man Utd could've had Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham right now in terrifying XI

Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma

There’s every chance the Italian would’ve joined United this summer had the Old Trafford outfit had Champions League football on offer. Alas, Gianluigi Donnarumma has rocked up at United’s bitter rivals, Manchester City.

Defence: Mazraoui, Upamecano, Torres, Shaw

Sticking with a traditional back four for the purpose of this list, Noussair Mazraoui has proved himself as one of the smarter United pick-ups in recent years. Less said about some of his other defensive team-mates though, with Dayot Upamecano and Pau Torres making up this new-look partnership. Both Upamecano and Torres were linked with switches to United before Solskjaer’s departure from the club. There remains a spot for Luke Shaw at left back though… that’s if he can stay fit.

Midfield: Rice, Fernandes, Bellingham

Bruno Fernandes is the sole midfield survivor for United, with the Portuguese ace flanked by Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham. Solskjaer is said to have explored the chance to sign Rice from West Ham United way before he left the capital club as part of a £100million deal. Meanwhile, Bellingham was at one point through the Old Trafford door, but the 20-time champions were unable to persuade him to pick United ahead of Birmingham City.

Attack: Grealish, Kane, Haaland

Who knows exactly how these three would work in practice, but it certainly makes for a tantisling trio in theory. Erling Haaland’s remains United’s biggest “one that got away”, especially given the established connection he had with Solskjaer to begin with. Haaland proved he was able to link up with Jack Grealish during their time at City, while Kane is a player who has perenially been linked with a move to the club. When quizzed on interest in the England skipper, Solskjaer said: "I would have signed Kane every day of the week and my understanding was that he wanted to come.”
