Leeds United learn Illan Meslier transfer deadline ahead of £13.8m decision

The summer transfer window may have closed for Leeds United and Daniel Farke will have to make do with the options he has available until the January transfer window.

However, the Whites can still offload players who may not be a part of the head coach's plans for the 2025/2026 Premier League campaign.

Illan Meslier is one of those who could leave the Whites, having fallen well down the pecking order over the last few months between the posts.

The French stopper was Farke's number one for most of the Championship promotion-winning campaign, but he was then dropped for the final few games, having made several high-profile mistakes.

Meslier is now in the final year of his contract and he can leave on a free transfer next summer. The 25-year-old, who signed for the Whites from Lorient on a permanent deal, in 2020, will even be able to agree a pre-contract with a new club as soon as the January window opens.

That means Leeds have little time to cash in on Meslier, who is currently valued at €16million (£13.8m), according to Transfermarkt. Getting a fee for the out-of-favour shot stopper would be a key boost in terms of PSR, with the club in a constant battle to comply with the Premier League regulations.

The transfer window in Turkey closes this evening, while Galatasaray were, reportedly, among the clubs keen on signing the French goalkeeper. However, the Turkish club have now completed the €30million (£25.9m) signing of Trabzonspor's Ugurcan Cakir, leaving Meslier in limbo.

Meslier has yet to feature in any matchday squad this season, and there is little time left to secure a deal.

According to FIFA, the Greek Super League and Liga MX in Mexico also close this evening, that in turn leaving just three possible destinations for Meslier to move to. Liga Portugal's window remains open until Monday, September 15, while the Serbian Super Liga window closes on Wednesday, September 17.

Meslier could, also, move to a club in Saudi Arabia, with their window closing on September 23, leaving just under two weeks left to secure a permanent sale.
