Aston Villa delved into the market late in the transfer window to bring in the player on loan from Liverpool
Aston Villa are back in Premier League action this weekend following the international break. They face an away trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to play Everton. The transfer window is now shut and they will have to wait until January before they can make any more additions, unless they delved into the free agent market.
Unai Emery’s side have made a slow start to the new season. They drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle United on the opening day. The Midlands outfit have since lost their last two outings on the spin against Brentford and Crystal Palace.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot on Aston Villa new boy Harvey Elliott
Aston Villa fans will be looking to seeing new signing Harvey Elliott in action. He has made the switch to Villa Park on loan from fellow top flight outfit Liverpool. The winger has been given the green light to leave Anfield to get some more experience under his belt.
The Reds’ manager Arne Slot has opened up about the player’s exit and has said, as per a report by BBC Sport: "Harvey is in a very good place going to a very nice club in Aston Villa and it is in the interest of everyone as he did not get the playing time he probably deserved for the quality that he has and he conducted himself always so well, he acted inside with him not playing so much. He was always doing whatever was best for the club and he deserves a big compliment for that.
"Everybody always talks about Mo [Salah] and Virgil [Van Dijk] if we win the league but players like him were the reason we could win it because he was positive even when he would only play five or ten minutes to help the team. That is partly the success of the team and I think he is ready to show his quality at Aston Villa."
What will Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott offer to Aston Villa?
Aston Villa have brought in Elliott to add more competition and depth to their attacking department. He will give them another option to pick from going forward. In addition, he will inject some useful quality into their ranks.
The England international, 22, rose up through the academy ranks at Fulham and was a regular for the Whites at various different youth levels before playing three times for their first-team as a teenager. He was lured up north by Liverpool back in 2019 as one for the future.
Elliott was loaned out by the Reds to Blackburn Rovers in his early days to get some senior game time in the Championship. He went on to play 42 games during his time in Lancashire and scored seven goals. Upon his return to Merseyside, he became part of the picture under ex-head coach Jurgen Klopp.
He has played 149 matches for Liverpool to date and has found the net on 15 occasions. The forward has never been guaranteed regular minutes. Therefore, that is what he will be after now at Aston Villa.
