Latest update is arriving from The Athletic, about an additional payment by Clippers' owner Steve Ballmer.
As the report of Mike Vorkunov says, Ballmer made an additional payment of $10 million to Aspiration, company sponsoring Kawhi Leonard in March 2023.
Los Angeles-based company was hemorrhaging cash, laying off employees and struggling to raise funds, and Ballmer's investments came just three months after Ballmer's college roommate and Clippers vice chairman Dennis Wong invested $1.99 million.
Wong's payment was firstly reported on Pablo Torre Finds Out Podcast, where they noted that Wong's investment was promptly followed with a $1.75 million payment by Aspiration to Kawhi Leonard.
Ballmer's 2023 investment was part of a fundraising round, almost exclusively including previous investors in Aspiration, with the addition of Dennis Wong.
Company tried to raise around $75 million, but ultimately came up short for nearly $9 million.
