The attacking change Regis Le Bris is 'considering' after deadline-day changes

Brobbey arrived from Ajax in the final few hours of the transfer window as a replacement for Marc Guiu, who had his loan move from Chelsea prematurely cancelled.

Brobbey joins Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor in Sunderland’s attacking ranks, with the latter duo already up and running for the campaign after scoring in the opening three league games.

For the majority of his Wearside reign, Le Bris has played with a lone centre-forward, but there were occasions in the Championship last season when he played Mayenda and Isidor together.

That remains an option this term, with the [Black Cats](http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland) boss also considering fielding Brobbey at ‘number nine’ with Mayenda playing off the Dutchman.

“I think it’s \[playing with two strikers\] still an option,” said Le Bris, whose side head to Selhurst Park today to take on Crystal Palace. “We used it with Marc. It wasn’t long, but it’s still possible to use it.

“With Brian and Wilson, it’s still possible. But Eli has a different profile. He can hold a nine-and-a-half position, and when we used him in this position last year, I think it was really positive.

“There were probably one or two starts like that, and more often it was later during the game. So, probably, it will be an option for us.”

Sunderland signed Brobbey for an initial fee of €20m, with a further €5m of potential add-ons also included in the deal.

The 23-year-old has made 209 senior appearances for Ajax and RB Leipzig, scoring 71 goals, and was named as Ajax’s Player of the Year in the 2023-24 season.

As an eight-time Netherlands international, he is a proven elite performer, with Le Bris regarding him as more of an out-and-out ‘number nine’ than either Mayenda or Isidor.

“He’s got a different profile to the other players we have, I think,” said the Sunderland boss. “I think he’s a pure striker, with the ability to hold the ball, to run behind and I think he’s a good finisher with a different physical profile.

“Eli, Wilson and Brian are all different. For a manager, for a squad, if we can manage different options according to what is needed about the game, it’s better.”
