'Immediately': Sandro Tonali urged to leave Newcastle United for trophy-laden career in Serie A

Juventus legend Alessio Tacchinardi has urged Sandro Tonali to leave Newcastle United and help the Old Lady restore their former glory.

Very few of Eddie Howe’s men can claim that they have had a good start to the season, but Sandro Tonali can hold his head high after his first three appearances.

The Italian said he did overtime in the gym to make himself available for Newcastle United’s draw with Leeds United after suffering a shoulder injury against Liverpool the week before. He was still able to put in a brave performance.

Tonali is happy at Newcastle, but reports have been made in Italy this year that the midfielder could return to the Serie A in the near future.

With clear interest from Italy, Juventus legend Alessio Tacchinardi has explained why the Serie A giants should go all in for the 25-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.

Sandro Tonali told he can win the Scudetto away if he leaves Newcastle United

Tonali joined Newcastle for £55m in 2023, but is only just playing his first full season for the club after his 10-month ban, which started in the 2023/24 campaign and ended early in the 2024/25 season.

While he helped win the Carabao Cup in March, the Italian international joined Newcastle with experience of winning trophies, having been a part of the AC Milan side that won Serie A in the 2021/22 season.

However, Tonali has now been urged by former Juventus man Alessio Tacchinardi to ditch the black and white stripes of Newcastle for those of the Old Lady, believing the decision would come with immediate success.

“I had the chance to watch Italy in Bergamo: seeing Tonali and imagining him alongside Thuram… I would sign immediately that Juventus would win the Scudetto,” he told Ilbianconero.

“If Juve sign Tonali now, they win the Scudetto.”

Sandro Tonali has been of serious interest to Serie A clubs in 2025

Tonali took his good form with him on international duty, scoring the winner in a thrilling 5-4 win against Israel earlier this week. Moments like that make fans realise how good a player they have in Tonali, and make others wish they had someone like him.

That is the story for multiple Serie A clubs, including his former side. A report in March stated that AC Milan were ready to make a £50m offer for Tonali, though that is nowhere near acceptable for a player of his quality.

Elsewhere, Juventus are big admirers of Tonali, so Tacchinardi’s comments are not completely out of the blue. While they are interested, Juventus realise signing Tonali is a ‘dream‘ which they cannot currently afford.

For now, Newcastle can enjoy having Tonali on their books, a player very few can believe actually plays under Howe on Tyneside.

Tonali is a special player and he needs to be protected at all costs.
