'I’m sure': David Moyes drops himself in it by mooting hidden clause in 'fantastic' Everton…

Everton manager David Moyes has issued an insight to James Garner’s current deal on Merseyside.

The Toffees have a number of players who are playing into their final year on their contracts at Everton.

Moyes will be keen to avoid a repeat of this summer, which saw numerous players end up leaving the club at the end of their deals.

Angus Kinnear was handed an unprecedented task at Everton in the summer after making the move over from Leeds United.

The work done during the window has been extremely positive, and the results on the pitch are showing that.

Moyes was delighted with Everton’s transfer business having seen the likes of Jack Grealish added to his squad.

However, the 62-year-old will be wanting the future of players like Garner wrapped up well before next summer’s window opens.

Considering some Everton fans questioned Garner last season, it has been quite the start to the new term for the midfielder.

With his contract situation up in the air, Moyes issued a potential clue on Garner’s future when speaking to the media on Friday.

“I don’t know if he’s in the last year of his contract. I’m sure there will be a clause in there where we’ve got him so, I couldn’t even answer that question,” said the 62-year-old.

“We don’t go into clauses,” added Everton’s head of media Andy Neid.

Moyes has raved about Garner this season, who is looking like a completely different player since the new term kicked off.

The Scot will enjoy Garner’s versatility having shone in the absence of Vitaliy Mykolenko, but the pressure is now ramping up following Merlin Rohl’s addition.

James Garner tipped to become England international

Everton are expected to open new contract talks with Garner over the coming weeks, with Jordan Pickford also on their radar.

His early season form will be making it impossible to overlook the 24-year-old, who is currently playing at a new level for the Blues.

Moyes has even claimed Garner should be playing for England if he can continue this level of form.

“I got asked about the England team. I think if I were on the England staff, I’d be keeping a close eye on Jimmy Garner,” Moyes said on Friday.

Garner has been hailed as ‘fanastic’ already this season.

Like with Grealish, consistency is going to be key for Garner. After all, Everton are only three games into the league campaign.
