Fábio Silva’s time at Wolverhampton Wanderers came to an end when he left them permanently to join Borussia Dortmund last month. He’s currently injured and there’s been a drama around his setback in Germany over the past week.
On September 6th, Sky Deutschland reported the striker brought the injury problem with him from Wolves and it was noticed during his medical.
Two days ago, Bild reported the former Wolves man didn’t inform BVB that he underwent surgery in the summer… until he arrived for his medical towards the end of August.
This was backed up by Ruhr Nachrichten, and they add the Wolves transfer drama had an impact on Brentford’s reported pursuit of Maximilian Beier. BVB manager Niko Kovač has now shared his take and WAZ have relayed his comments.
“I forgot about Fabio Silva. But he’s still in the [short pause] medical department…” he said.
With regards to claims BVB weren’t aware Silva underwent a surgery, Kovač explained: “I don’t know why he was signed while injured. He had surgery, we were fully aware of that. But there are operations where you can predict that recovery will be quick.
“So, we were fully aware that the boy would be back as soon as possible. We’re trying to increase things little by little. He’s making progress, but we can’t rush things.
‘‘I can’t say what the plan is. As a coach, I want it to happen as soon as possible. But as long as the medical department doesn’t give the green light, I have no intention of pushing anyone.”
The recent claims have also seen the German club criticised for investing on the Portugal international, but their manager remains confident Silva will eventually do well.
“He won’t be available for a week or two, but he’ll get his minutes, and we’ll be happy with him,” he added.
