Crystal Palace have confirmed the departure of a player who was in-demand last summer.
Palace have been on a clean-up mission since then, with reports claiming Guehi isn’t happy with the club, which will be no surprise given he had a medical ahead of his proposed move to Liverpool, only to be told he had to stay.
But it appears as though Guehi wasn’t the only player looking for an exit late in the window, though, with winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi having failed to land an exit despite having a solid loan spell with Sheffield United last season, helping them reach the play-off final with seven goals in 35 league appearances.
Then Blades boss Chris Wilder said of the winger last September: “There were two £15m bids for him, and three-quarters of the Championship sides in for him as well. Rak-Sakyi’s making his debut at home, which was great for him. He’s going to be a player.
“Two big bids for him to Crystal Palace, one out of our division and one out of the Premier League, we’ve beat off a whole host of Championship clubs.”
It’s a little surprising that the 22-year-old has not been able to find at least a Championship loan, but having failed to land an exit ahead of the deadline, he was effectively limited to Turkish and Saudi Arabian options due to those countries’ windows remaining open.
That has led tot he winger joining Cayur Rizespor for the season, a club that finished mid-table in the Superlig last season.
A Palace statement confirmed: “Crystal Palace can confirm that Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has joined Turkish club Çaykur Rizespor on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season, subject to international clearance. The 22-year-old winger joined Palace’s Academy from Chelsea in 2019, and has since made 10 senior appearances for the club in all competitions.
“After impressing on loan with Charlton Athletic in 2022/23, Rak-Sakyi spent last season in the Championship with Sheffield United, where he scored seven times in 36 matches as the Blades narrowly missed out on promotion through the play-offs.
“He will now continue his career in the Turkish Super League with Rizespor, who finished ninth in the top-flight last season. Everyone at Crystal Palace wishes Jes the very best of luck for his time in Türkiye (sic).”
It’s unclear what the winger’s future holds, but now 22 years of age, he is going to have to make his case for the first team very soon before a decision is made on his future.
