Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spotted at Championship match after Besiktas sacking, shows support for former Man Utd coach

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been spotted enjoying some Championship football just a few weeks after being sacked by Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas.

Since the beginning of the season, two former Manchester United managers have been sacked by Turkish clubs.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left Besiktas after a Europa Conference League defeat to Ineos-owned Swiss club Lausanne.

The Norwegian coach had won nine of 17 matches in charge last season, which included a five-game winning streak, but he was still sent packing for their shortcomings in Europe.

Just 12 hours later, Jose Mourinho was dismissed at Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce finished 11 points behind champions Galatasaray, but they only managed to reach the Turkish Cup quarter-finals and crashed out of the Europa League in the Round of 16 after losing to Rangers.

It remains to be seen how long it will take both managers to return to the dugout.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spotted at Ipswich Town vs Sheffield United

After stepping away from Besiktas, Solskjaer has wasted no time jumping back into the stands as a spectator of the beautiful game.

Solskjaer was spotted at Portman Road for Ipswich Town’s game against Sheffield United on Friday night.

Sky Sports cameras captured Solskjaer during the match, which is set to spark speculation, with Blades’ boss Ruben Selles under pressure after losing the opening five games of their Championship campaign. It’s a big step back for a side that narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season.

However, the most likely reason for Solskjaer’s attendance is that he was checking in on Kieran McKenna, who has been in charge of Ipswich Town since he left Old Trafford in 2021.

McKenna initially joined United in 2016 after leaving his role at Tottenham to join the academy set up, becoming the U18s manager. He was later promoted to the first-team coaching staff and replaced Rui Faria as Mourinho’s assistant manager.

Solskjaer would keep McKenna as part of his staff when he replaced Mourinho. They remain close to this day.

How is Kieran McKenna doing at Ipswich Town?

Solskjaer saw the best of Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town last night as they beat Sheffield United 5-0.

But that was Ipswich’s first win of the season after drawing three and losing one.

McKenna has done a remarkable job as Ipswich manager, after taking over when they were competing in League One, before back-to-back promotions took them to the Premier League.

This season, they will be aiming to get back into the top flight.
