“Playing like a bun” – Ruben Amorim decision for Manchester City slammed by pundit

Ruben Amorim’s decision not to throw Senne Lammens into the deep end as Manchester United take on Manchester City this weekend is the wrong one.

That’s according to Johan Boskamp [in Het Belang van Limburg](https://www.hbvl.be/), who can’t understand why Amorim would not use his new goalkeeper straight away.

Lammens is the official new number one at Old Trafford after arriving at Manchester United on deadline day of the summer transfer window in a €21m deal.

He is expected to replace Altay Bayindir in goal, with the Turkish goalkeeper having started the season as first choice ahead of Andre Onana, who has now left to join Trabzonspor on loan anyway.

All indications were that Lammens would immediately be thrown into the deep end, particularly given Bayindir has hardly impressed in the games he’s played so far this season.

That has been shot down by Amorim, though, who has insisted that the goalkeeper will not start in goal for Sunday’s Manchester derby against Manchester City.

That’s a decision which Boskamp cannot get his head around and feels Amorim is making the wrong choice early on in Lammens time at Old Trafford.

“I would have started him straight away, because that Turkish goalkeeper (Altay Bayindir) is playing like a bun,” he said.

“Nonsense! We’re talking about Manchester United here,” he added when it was suggested Amorim wants to use him in a match with less pressure.

“One of the most media-covered clubs in the world. Whoever they play, there’s always going to be pressure. Every little mistake is magnified. That’s just part of being a club. If you can’t handle that, you shouldn’t sign with them.”
