Ange Postecoglou explains Nottingham Forest team selection against Arsenal

Ange Postecoglou has had his say on his first Nottingham Forest team selection as head coach.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss took charge of the Reds on Tuesday. He has had minimal time to work with his new group before being thrown straight in at the deep end.

Forest return to action from the international break today with a game against Arsenal (12.30pm kick-off). Postecoglou has made just one change to the starting XI from Nuno Espirito Santo’s final game at the helm.

Morato has been brought in to replace the injured Ola Aina and looks set to start at left-back. Otherwise, it is a case of as you were for Forest as they try to bounce back from their 3-0 thumping at the hands of West Ham United.

"I didn't want to make so many changes today. I wanted to keep it fairly consistent. We lost Ola, but Morato comes in,” Postecoglou told TNT Sports (via the BBC).

"Until you get to know the players, it is hard to make an accurate assessment. Some guys have a hell lot of potential to improve as well.

"When you walk in the dressing room and the feeling I sense is it's a united group. I'm looking forward to working with them. I don't see anyone in the squad who won't be able to play the football that I want to play.

"I want to leave a mark and leave an impact. That's what we will try and do. A great experience (Spurs' Europa League win) last year and learnt a hell of a lot last year. The squad that Nottingham have put together is well-equipped to handle that."

It appears Postecoglou will stick with a back four in the capital. Morato has come in for Aina and is likely to take up the left-back spot, with Neco Williams switching to the right. Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo will line up in the heart of the defence ahead of goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Postecoglou has stuck with the midfield pairing of Ibrahim Sangare and Elliot Anderson. Dan Ndoye, Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi will provide attacking support for forward Chris Wood.

The bench will be made up of John Victor, Douglas Luiz, Arnaud Kalimuendo, Omari Hutchinson, Ryan Yates, James McAtee, Dilane Bakwa, Willy Boly and Nicolo Savona.

Forest: Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Morato; Sangare, Anderson; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood. Subs: Victor, Luiz, Kalimuendo, Hutchinson, Yates, McAtee, Bakwa, Boly, Savona.
