The Carolina Panthers fell flat in their season-opening 26-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the lackluster performance cast a lot of doubt around what is supposed to be an improved season for this long-suffering fanbase.
While the scoreboard and stat sheets didn’t look great, one player who delivered a stellar performance was cornerback Jaycee Horn.
Pro Football Focus shared on X that in the Jaguars game, Horn allowed just seven receiving yards on four targets, which included his jaw-dropping one-handed interception on a deep ball intended for rookie Travis Hunter, which collectively gave him a 0.0 passer rating against him for the day.

Horn is in his fifth year after the Panthers selected him eighth overall out of South Carolina in 2021, and he is looking to build on the strong and healthy campaign he had last year when he played in a career-high 15 games and racked up 68 tackles and 13 pass deflections.
Carolina had one of the worst defenses in the NFL last season, and if things are going to improve on that side of the ball this year, Horn will need to keep progressing and develop into the legitimate shutdown corner he is capable of being.
Bryce Young and the offense looked as lost as they did early last season, and this team isn’t going anywhere unless he can recapture the momentum he found following his benching last season, but it’s only one game, and there is plenty of talent on this team capable of leading a turnaround.
It was an outstanding first game for Horn, and it will be fun to see if he can repeat that performance on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.
