Major injury doubt for Leeds United after first team star is absent from matchday squad

Leeds United will hope to continue their positive start to the season this weekend. Daniel Farke’s men are on the road to London as they take on a strong Fulham side.

Though Marco Silva’s team have yet to pick up a win in the league, they are still a formidable opponent. And they will be boosted after their latest transfer additions will be available for the game. Kevin, Chukwueze and Kusi-Asare could all feature on Saturday.

Leeds can be buoyed by their last result against Newcastle United, the Whites impressed as they held Eddie Howe’s team to a goalless draw. Hopefully the defence and midfield can hold up against a very dangerous Fulham side.

QUIZ: Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2000s?

The lineup for the Fulham game has already raised some huge surprises on Saturday. But the major news is that Ethan Ampadu has been declared fit after an injury from the first game week. Brenden Aaronson has also been handed his first league start as Wilfried Gnonto makes way on the bench.

One curious omission from the matchday squad is Joel Piroe. The striker was not even named on the bench for the game.

During Thursday’s press conference, Daniel Farke only hinted that the Dutchman was a doubt for Saturday’s game.

”Some mixed news. Can confirm Lucas Perri is definitely out, he reports problems with his quad after the last game, scan showed a muscle strain so will miss Fulham and Wolves, then we’ll see. A few question marks behind Lukas Nmecha hit on his foot, missed training yesterday.

”Joel Piroe hit a big bruise in his calf, we see how his body reacts, so little doubt.”

But now that Piroe has been left out of the team completely, it raises questions about his injury status for the next few games. Hopefully the calf bruise is not severe enough to rule him out of multiple games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin handed huge chance

This game is the best chance for Calvert-Lewin to show that he should be the starter in the team. The former Everton man will be hoping to shake off the cobwebs from the Sheffield Wednesday game where he was guilty of missing clear cut chances to put his team in the lead.

Daniel Farke has now given him the opportunity, he has to make the best of it.
