Arsenal fans ensured their voices were heard in their latest game, shouting out some brutal chants as they beat Nottingham Forest in Ange Postecoglou's first match as the side's manager.
Despite qualifying for European football last season, Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked by Nottingham soon after the close of the summer transfer window, having previously commented publicly on the deterioration of the relationship between himself and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
In his place, Forest appointed Ange Postecoglou, who in turn made a swift return to the Premier League following his dismissal from Tottenham Hotspur. Given his previous work with the Lilywhites, who he guided to Europa League success in the last campaign, Arsenal supporters are not exactly huge fans of the Australian.
It was hardly the start that Postecoglou would have wanted as, in his first game at the helm against Arsenal, Forest were comfortably beaten 3-0 at the Emirates. Considered by many as title favourites, Postecoglou would be best to swiftly move on from the loss, as the Gunners will no doubt be an incredibly hard side to beat, especially at home, across the 2025/26 season.
This, however, did not stop Arsenal fans from targeting Postecoglou with a number of chants as the match progressed.
Tough Debut For Postecoglou
Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou
Forest threatened against Arsenal in moments of the game, but never truly wrestled control away from the hosts in the match. Soon after the opening 30 minutes, Martin Zubimendi scored a stunning volley to open the scoring. Immediately after the half-time break, Viktor Gyokeres netted his third Premier League goal of the season thus far, essentially securing the victory for his side before Zubimendi notched a brace in the final quarter of the match.
In response, Arsenal fans made a number of comments towards Postecoglou, questioning if Forest were, in fact, "Tottenham in disguise."
Postecoglou's Europa League triumph is ultimately what will be remembered of his time with Spurs, but the club were almost infamous for their erratic defensive style, given Postecoglou's preference for a high line and pressure on his opponents. As Arsenal's grip on the game grew stronger, Gunners supporters started singing that Postecoglou would be "sacked in the morning."
Though it was certainly not the start that Postecoglou would have envisioned, the Australian still has plenty of time to remind people of his managerial quality, both in the Premier League and in the Europa League. Their showing against Arsenal, however, can not become consistent should Forest hope to continue on their upward trajectory.
