Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are experiencing a tough season thus far after losing Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter in the 2025 NFL Draft. While fans knew there was going to be a substantial amount of turnover, they didn’t expect this kind of start to the year.

In Deion Sanders’ third year, things aren’t going as planned. Colorado lost 36-20 to Houston on Friday night:
Colorado’s defense had no answer for Houston quarterback Conner Weigman, who completed 15 of 24 pass attempts for 222 yards. He also had 83 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Sanders didn’t get nearly as much positive production from his quarterback, Ryan Staub. The sophomore had 204 passing yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
The Buffaloes ultimately lost the time of possession battle, committed more penalties than the Cougars, and were way less efficient on third down. That’s a losing formula if we’ve ever seen one.
“It wasn’t good. I’m at a loss for words,” Sanders told reporters following the loss. “No one could have told me that it was gonna turn out like this.”
Following Colorado’s loss to Houston on Friday night, countless fans aired their complaints about Coach Prime on social media. It’s pretty evident that people aren’t willing to just give him a pass despite losing Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to the NFL.
“Deion sanders let Ryan Staub play the whole game after making dozens of mistakes but pulled Kaidon salter after a half of football last week. Not to mention he never benched Shilo sanders once last year for playing like crap,” one fan said.

“I hate to be the one that says I told ya so but Colorado football is straight hot dog water. Deion Sanders is one of the top 3 worse coaches in college football. But don’t forget he comin and he bringing Gucci. I think he’s finding out his Gucci comes from Temu,” another fan wrote.
“I absolutely love the Deion Sanders balloon crashing to earth. Most overrated coach in CFB,” a third fan commented.
“Does Deion Sanders get fired this year? Dude is a horrible coach honestly lol. Lucky if they win 4 games this year,” a fourth fan said.
Unfortunately for Sanders, things won’t get any easier this season. Colorado will face Wyoming, BYU, TCU and Iowa State over the next four games. None of those teams have lost a game yet.
At this point, it’s fair to wonder if Colorado will have an under .500 record this year. After all, the program is already 1-2 through three games.
