Nick Woltemade is off the mark for Newcastle United with a brilliant goal on his debut.
After a shaky start, the Magpies got back on track and opened the scoring at St James’ Park.
It could only be from one person, with club record signing Nick Woltemade finding the back of the net on his debut, to give the Magpies a first-half lead.
The German striker got on the end of Jacob Murphy’s brilliant ball into the area, heading neatly into the top corner past Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. It felt like there was a lot of concern around St James’ Park after Wolves missed several big chances, but the crowd erupted when Woltemade found the back of the net.
With the record striker officially off the mark for his new club, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has shared his immediate reaction to the goal.

It is a debut Woltemade will never forget, and it was not even confirmed he would play until Friday. The feeling was that Yoane Wissa was going to start for Newcastle, given that he has more Premier League experience.
However, Eddie Howe put his faith in Woltemade, and that faith has now paid off.
Shearer will be watching on from afar on Saturday, but that has not stopped him from sharing his thoughts on Woltemade’s goal.
