There was a large amount of around the Hill Dickinson Stadium today as Everton hosted their first ever Premier League 3pm kick-off at their new home.
Back-to-back top-flight victories over Brighton and Wolves, sandwiched between a Carabao Cup success over Mansfield Town, made it three wins in a week for the buoyant Blues. Villa, however, have started poorly, with their 3-0 home loss to Crystal Palace stretching their winless and goalless start to the league campaign to three games.
Traffic started to build up in Liverpool city centre from 2pm today, concentrated on The Strand, the Costco superstore, Paisley Street, Leeds Street and Waterloo Road.
Many of these roads saw traffic brought to a standstill with many fans opting to walk from town to the stadium on Regent Road. Others used the train and walked to Sandhills station.
At 1.30pm, Merseyrail said on X: “Fans are coming through Sandhills currently, please listen to what the team on the platforms advise so we can safely get you off the platform and out of the station.”
Meanwhile, Goodison Park has been redecorated to reflect its new status as the home of Everton Women. They beat Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield in the Merseyside Derby last week. They will play their first home game of the WSL season against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow at 2.30pm.
