Nick Woltemade made a dream debut in black and white as he opened his account at St James' Park following his £69million move from Stuttgart in Newcastle's 1-0 win over Wolves.
The 6ft 6in forward had gone into this clash carrying the burden to get goals for a shot shy United and the dreams of thousands after Alexander Isak's £130m sale to Liverpool but he came up with the goods as dark clouds cleared on Tyneside.
The Magpies went in against Wolves looking for their first win of the season and aiming to see off the rock bottom side. Woltemade's dream debut took a little while to warm up but the magic moment arrived on the half-hour mark as he headed home wonderfully from Jacob Murphy's right wing cross.
Woltemade's performance was not the only highlight of the win with Sandro Tonali, Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy and Fabian Schar all weighing in with big contributions.
Here's how Newcastle stars rated against Wolves:
Nick Pope 8
Made some vital saves to keep another clean sheet and make his third shutout in four Premier League games.
Kieran Trippier 6
Used his guile to lead Newcastle to a vital win.
Fabian Schar 8
A crucial intervention in the first half at 0-0 and put his body on the line in impressive display that included a series of aerial wins.
Dan Burn 7
Scrapped and battle his way through.
Tino Livramento 8
Always offered a threat going forward, from open play and from throw-ins.
Joelinton 7
A welcome return, but taken off with Barcelona in mind.
Sandro Tonali 8
A hand in the goal and some splendid passing. Picked holes in the Wolves defence.
Bruno Guimaraes 8
Ran himself into the ground with an influential display.
Harvey Barnes 6
Offered a threat but will need to find more to keep Anthony Gordon out the team.
Jacob Murphy 8
Had his own chances, but what price do you put on that cross for Woltemade? Had other chances and created a nuisance of himself.
Nick Woltemade 10
Given the weight on his shoulders of the transfer fee, the scathing criticism from Bayern, and the fact he replaced Alexander Isak, he stood up to all and weighed in with the winning goal. Crossing the white line with all eyes on his towering presence may have been daunting but he delivered what was asked of him and more.
Therefore, he walks away with full marks.
