Newcastle United recorded their first Premier League win of the season, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at St James’ Park.
It wasn’t pretty, but it didn’t have to be.
After no win since May, and three games without victory this season so far, Newcastle United needed three points, by hook or by crook. And although it was far from vintage, they somehow managed to conjure up a 1-0 win at St James’ Park against Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers.
New frontman Nick Woltemade was the Magpies’ hero as he rose highest to head home a Jacob Murphy cross on the half hour, marking what was an impressive debut from the club record signing.

£69m man marks debut with impressive goal
We all know he had big boots to fill, well, as a player, not really a character. And he went about doing it the right way immediately. His link up, touch and ability to bring others into the game stood out straight away. In the opening 45, he barely put a foot wrong.
And while he hadn’t really broken the box, he did so in style midway through the first half as he got on the end of a Murphy cross to tower over his defender and beat Sam Johnstone at the back post.
And, the goal was not lost on one of the greatest headers of a ball the club has seen - Alan Shearer.
Alan Shearer praise for Nick Woltemade
Shearer, no stranger to a header or two at the Gallowgate or the Leazes, like what he saw from Woltemade. He tweeted: “What a cross and an even better header.”
High praise indeed from Shearer, not only for Woltemade, but provider Murphy, too.
It was often said during his time at the club that Shearer was not only the best finisher, but the best crosser at NUFC, too.

Nick Woltemade’s debut goal handed Newcastle United a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Howe handed a debut to £69million club-record signing Nick Woltemade, who was one of three changes from the goalless draw at Leeds United before the international break.
Harvey Barnes and Joelinton, back from a muscle injury, returned to the starting line-up in place of Will Osula and Sven Botman as Howe reverted back to his 4-3-3 formation.
And it was a dream debut for the Magpies’ new 6ft 6in German after he put his side in front when he headed home Jacob Murphy’s cross in the 30th minute.
