Eddie Howe shares latest on Yoane Wissa injury ahead of Newcastle vs Barcelona - journalist

Eddie Howe has confirmed Newcastle United are yet to get an update on Yoane Wissa’s injury.

Newcastle spent around £55million to sign Wissa from Brentford on deadline day, with the view of him getting immediate Premier League goals while fellow new arrival Nick Woltemade develops.

Woltemade, however, scored on his Newcastle United debut on Saturday as Howe’s side claimed their first win of the season.

Meanwhile, Wissa missed Newcastle’s game against Wolves due to a knee injury sustained while playing for DR Congo over the international break.

Speaking after the Wolves game, the Newcastle United manager confirmed the latest.

Eddie Howe confirms still no update on Yoane Wissa’s fitness

Sadly for Newcastle, Howe confirmed that there was no update on the forward’s fitness, as per Keith Downie of Sky Sports.

That is a worry with Thursday’s huge Champions League clash against Barcelona so close.

Barcelona also dealt with major injury blow ahead of Newcastle game

Thursday’s opponents Barcelona are not without injury concerns themselves. Barca defender Alejandro Balde suffered an injury earlier this month, while one of their biggest names could also miss the game.

Indeed, teenage sensation Lamine Yamal is a doubt for the game. The Spain international will not play for Barca against Valencia this weekend, having suffered an injury during the break in club football.

Ahead of the Valencia clash, Barca manager Hansi Flick told a pre-match press conference: “He had problems, played 79 and 73 minutes, and didn’t even train between matches because of this pain. That is not really taking care of the players, is it? It is not.

“Spain, they have the best team in the world, best players in the world. In every position they are unbelievably good.

“So, maybe they will also want to take care of our players, our young players, but it’s like they are doing this [to them]. This is what I can say and I’m really sad about this.”
