Youri Tielemans injury extent revealed after Aston Villa midfielder substituted early against…

An update on Youri Tielemans after sustaining an injury for Aston Villa away at Everton.

Youri Tielemans will undergo tests in the coming days after sustaining an injury in the first half of the 0-0 draw away at Everton.

A source close to Villa has confirmed to Birmingham World that it was the calf muscle causing Tielemans grief, hence his game ended prematurely. The Belgian, who recently scored twice on international duty, completed more passes than any other player on the field in the first 45 minutes but couldn’t continue.

Tielemans was limping as he walked past the press in the mixed zone at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but the good news is he wasn’t on crutches or wearing a protective boot. That doesn’t necessarily rule out the fact it’s a serious issue for Tielemans, but it’s at least a promising sign.

Unai Emery was quizzed about Tielemans in the post-match press conference but he didn’t want to share much at all. “Yes,” Emery responded bluntly when asked if it was an injury. Then, when a journalist asked for a little more detail, Emery instead mentioned other injuries in the squad.

“Hopefully we can recover (Boubacar) Kamara and (Amadou) Onana, (Ross) Barkley too. But today, Lamare Bogarde helped us a lot. He did a fantastic job and I’m happy for him. (Victor) Lindelof also played as a midfielder for 10 minutes. That’s the commitment we need.”
