Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones attempted to strike a blockbuster trade with the New York Jets for Quinnen Williams.
On “The Saturday Huddle” with Gary Myers, Jones revealed that he was the one who initiated the trade talks this offseason with the Jets about Micah Parsons.
“As it would turn out, I initiated that,” Jones told Myers. “Frankly, they didn’t have the resources to entertain conversations. It was a very good brief visit.”
Myers speculated that Jones was likely asking for Williams and a future first-rounder, maybe two, “Am I going down the right path there?” Myers asked.
“Yes, you are. A prerequisite to the entire trade was that we had to have right now a really frankly significantly dominant inside defensive player. Which was our goal to address the run more than we had been addressing it the previous four years … That was a prerequisite. You didn’t get into the mentality of my trading if you didn’t have that coming through the door,” Jones explained.
Jones confirmed to Myers that the Cowboys and Jets only had that one trade conversation for a potential Parsons-Williams swap, but the green and white were unable to meet his asking price.

Jets Made the Very Brief List of Jerry Jones Teams for Parsons
The Cowboys ended up trading Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two future first-round draft choices.
However, Jones revealed during the press conference after Parsons was traded that they combed through the league to find the right teams to consider.
A prerequisite to any Parsons trade was getting back a top-level interior defensive lineman. Jones said that eliminated a lot of teams in the league by default.
The Jets were one of the very few teams that made the cut.
This is a developing story and we’ll provide new details as they become availalbe.
