Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade has shared a rather interesting conversation he had with Jacob Murphy before his debut goal for the club.
Indeed, Woltemade’s first Newcastle United goal teed Eddie Howe’s side up for their first Premier League win of the season.
The towering German striker – not particularly known for his headers despite his sizeable frame – connected with Murphy’s cross to net the winner against Wolves.
It was a brilliant debut for the 23-year-old. Replacing Alexander Isak isn’t easy and there has been some criticism of the fee Newcastle paid Stuttgart to sign him, which brings a certain degree of pressure.
With that in mind, hitting the ground running felt hugely important, particularly given Yoane Wissa’s injury.
After the game, Woltemade shared what Murphy had said to him.

He revealed that Murphy had told him to get in the box, with the Newcastle winger confident the crosses would come.

It’s the kind of goal Newcastle just would not have scored in the opening three games of the season, when they were playing without a striker.
“Murph told me he always makes crosses! I was ready for it – I headed it well,” he said.
“I looked up and my friends were there – the fans were there. I was so happy.”

Jacob Murphy underlines importance to Newcastle United
Murphy was one of Newcastle’s best players last season, racking up a fantastic 12 Premier League assists.
While the 30-year-old now has competition for a starting berth following the arrival of Anthony Elanga, Murphy put on a fine showing on Saturday.
Making only his second start of the season, it was his brilliant cross that teed up Woltemade.
Though Elanga deserves time to bed in at St James’ Park, he surely has a fight on his hands to start ahead of Murphy.
With Barcelona up next as the Champions League returns, it would be a surprise not to see Murphy start.
