The SEC has an early clash of titans in the spotlight on Saturday when No. 6 Georgia makes the trip to No. 15 Tennessee in a battle between unbeaten powerhouses. The first conference matchup for both teams has the makings of a blockbuster, with the Bulldogs still searching for top form as they look to make a statement at Neyland Stadium.
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton has made noticeable progress this season, but Tennessee's Joey Aguilar enters this matchup as the hotter hand and the playmaker in better form. The Vols prospect has thrown for five touchdowns and more than 500 yards passing, really looking the part in a 72-17 blowout of East Tennessee State last weekend.
That being said, the Bulldogs have bulldozed their way to a series lead in this rivalry after winning the last eight encounters between these teams. Georgia trailed the head-to-head 23-21-2 as recently as 2016 but now boasts a six-game lead after going undefeated since then in the interstate matchup.
Kirby Smart's men took a hit in the rankings after a decisive-but-not-dazzling 28-6 win over Austin Peay last week, during which they managed a single touchdown in each quarter. Matching that score would be enough to bag the win based on Tennessee's performances over the course of those eight straight defeats in this fixture, but Aguilar & Co. are displaying all the signs of a team ready to break out.
