A market opportunity has arisen for **Man City**to claim Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian is an unusual choice for **Pep Guardiola**and his typical vision of the game, leading to questions that prompted the manager to state that "everybody will be involved" in the roster this campaign.
‘He is so tall’
After spending eight years at the Etihad Stadium, Ederson has moved on, signing for Fenerbahce.
“Ederson* help us to create a special way. He has been our keeper for the best decade for this club.”*
The manager mentioned that the shot stopper has had his eye on a new challenge for some time.
“Two years, Eddie was thinking I've done everything: Champions League, Premier League and as well for my family a new experience. It didn't happen, then it happened this summer this moment.”
**Gianluigi Donnarumma**stalled on a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, and Luis Enrique chose to bring in Lucas Chevalier. Guardiola has leapt at the chance to acquire a player who has won the Champions League, starred for AC Milan, and won the Euros in 2021 with Italy.
*“We had the chance after that when Eddie have one or two seasons thinking he wants to take another experience at the end it happened. The market give us a chance to take Gigi: 26 years old incredible experience with the big clubs with the national team from Italy. We look forward to helping him.”*
After his European exploits with PSG, Donnarumma has displayed what he will bring to the table.
*“He is so tall, so huge. He gives confidence to the team, personality, a big presence on big stages so the Champions League he has done last season in Villa Park, in Anfield and in many other games.”*
Guardiola gave his word that James Trafford, who has returned from Burnley, is still in the plans.
*“He’s a keeper for Man City. The keepers play one. But the season is so long. Now starts the real season for many games. Everybody will be involved. They don’t believe it but it’s going to happen.”*
‘Gigi have another quality’
While **Ederson**raised the expectations of ball playing goalkeepers to new heights, Donnarumma does not excel in this area. Trafford has already buckled under the pressure of playing out from the back against **Tottenham,**and the media sensed that the Italian might be set up to fail. Guardiola disagrees.
*“I try to adapt the quality of the players I would not demand Gigi to do something uncomfortable. We are talking about the best players I ever seen in the in the distribution in short and long I ever seen with Ederson. So we didn't take Gigi to do what Ederson have done. Gigi have another quality.”*
The Spaniard shared his reflections on the wide options of the Citizens from the 2018/19 campaign. Quality was littered across the roster, and he used different parts of the toolbox in different situations.
*“You are talking about the wingers that he had in the past example Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling or Leroy Sane is completely different to the winger that we have. So it's not so when you say one analysis of one players looks like you want to undermine the other one. It's not about that.”*
He also indicated that his shot stoppers have areas where their weaknesses and strengths differ. The manager mentioned a young central defender as a point of reference to assure his faith in Trafford.
“Abdukodir Khusanov* is faster than the other central defenders. He’s faster because his parents gave genetics the others didn't give it to him but the other ones have something that Kusa does not have.”*
