NBA Coach and Pitt County native Rico Hines returns home for youth basketball clinic

WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - NBA coach and Pitt County native Rico Hines returned home Saturday to lead the 2nd Annual “Know Your Big Picture” Youth Basketball Clinic.

The transformational basketball clinic hosted by Horizons Pitt County was held at South Central High School, where Hines, who is an Assistant Coach for the Philadelphia 76ers, shared words of wisdom. He also gave tools and basketball instructions to help youth meet their full potential.

Boys and girls ages 6-18 were at the clinic, with many traveling from across the state to attend.

“It’s always good to come back home in Eastern North Carolina and give back and speak to the youth,” Hines said. “I’ve walked in a lot of these kids shoes by being from Eastern North Carolina, so when I get a chance to come back and tell them my story, and my testimony, it feels good to be a part of that. Hopefully they learn something from it and they meet new friends today as well.”

Horizons of Pitt County an organization which provides students with high quality programs and social emotional activities to support youth development made the event possible.

Hines was also awarded with a proclamation of recognition by Winterville’s mayor, Richard Hines.
